Maine Vacation 2013: Around the House

We spent a fair amount of time in Maine just hanging out doing very little. Which was delightful! That's what vacation is all about, right?

It was unseasonably warm (aka, record breaking heat...in the 90s!), but it was sunny and it wasn't humid, so it still felt like vacation.

On vacation Mon Amour somehow always gets roped into making scrambled eggs, but never gets to enjoy the fruits of his labors...since he's allergic. Thanks for making them for the rest of us!

Sitting in the shade, using the baby bath as a pool...yeah, it was warmer than we expected it to be.

For this picture, Papillon and I got a regular old self-portrait which she looked at, then exclaimed - "You can't see my feet!"   Problem solved...

Mon Amour's Grandpa also joined us on vacation.

Porches are great for dancing and singing.

Maine Vacation 2013: The Trip Up

As I mentioned, Papillon got to drive up to Maine with her grandparents. A few days later, Mon Amour, Hibou and I headed out to make the 800 miles trek.

We stopped in Lewiston, ME, which was beautiful!

Hibou was a trooper on the trip!  She did lots of sleeping.

Gotta make a phone call!

Breakfast in bed, animal cracker style!

We made a quick stop the second day to look at Mt. Katahdin (not actually pictured in this shot...)
IMG_6150

Hibou didn't noticeably miss Papillon, and all reports are that Papillon did a great job without us. But when we were all reunited in Maine, we were all clearly delighted to be back together!

Kansas Vacation: 2 Years Later

Just because it is fun to look back, I want to start this post with two pictures from our trip to Kansas in May 2011. Papillon was 10 months old.

Ahh, so cute. Now, flash forward to present day. (Or at least, present day a month ago). Papillon is going on 3 years old and Hibou is 13 months.

Same bench. Same trees. Wow how things change!

Kansas Vacation: Swings

What could be better than a tire swing and a big tree swing in the middle of 80 acres in Kansas?  Not much!

Kansas Vacation: Starbuck

Two years ago Papillon got to sit on Aunt J's horse. This year, Papillon was very excited to meet Starbuck again. But it was definitely a love-fear, relationship. She wanted to see Starbuck all the time, but didn't want to get too close. She wanted to give him treats from her hand, but didn't want his lips to touch her.  She is, as ever, our cautious child.

IMG_5471

She loved it when Starbuck ran along the fence. She tried to keep up but he quickly passed her and she would call after him delightedly "come back, come back!"
IMG_5464

Hibou is significantly less cautious than her sister and thought that horse-lips eating her fingers was super cool.

Thanks, Aunt J, for letting us love on your horse during out visit!

Kansas Vacation: Epic Park

Perhaps you recall from 2 years ago, when I posted about the Playground of Awesomeness.    Well, it's still there and it's still awesome! Perhaps even more awesome now that we have two little ones to enjoy it!

Also, this year, we got to experience the Merry Go Round. It costs 5 cents per person. Yup. 5 cents. deal of a century!
IMG_5433

We also rode the miniature train ride. That cost 50 cents.  Yup. For $2.20 we all rode two perfectly delightful rides. For $1 per person more we could have played a full round of mini golf!  I don't know what cost of living is like in Kansas (sales tax is 9% though, yikes!) but their cost of entertainment is spot-on!

IMG_5425

Check out the steepness of this slide! Good thing it is enclosed.
IMG_5268

Hibou is out little thrill seeker. She loved all the rides we would let her on.
IMG_5266

Papillon was more cautious, but willing to try it since her older "cousin" was so excited about it.
IMG_5265

Oh, and did I forget to mention, in addition to the Merry Go Round, Train Ride and Mini Golf, there is also a full fledged (ok, it's a little gimpy, but still legit!) Zoo attached to this park. And it's FREE!

How many turtles do you see in this picture. Look closely, they are actually completely lining the island!

Checking out the wild bird observation area.
IMG_5251

Peacocks, up close and personal!
IMG_5240

I forget what this was called...
IMG_5239

This swan was fairly aggressive...apparently he was used to being fed.
IMG_5231

They also have a fox, some spider monkeys, some donkeys, some elk, some emus, and all kinds of other exotic and less exotic creatures.

More coolness connected to the zoo/park.

All that fun meant it was time to grab a nap where ever you could...
