Bagels

After reading about the success of a friend of mine with making bagels, we was inspired to try it for ourselves. So, the other weekend, we set out on a bagel making adventure.

You start out with some fairly normal bread-type dough.

Divide it into small balls.

Punch a whole through it and shape it into a bagel-like ring.

Then comes the part that made me nervous - boiling the dough. In my mind, this is rather counter intuitive. Why would I soak bread dough? Wouldn't that un-dough-it? Turn it back into mush?
But, we did it. Boiled each for about 1 minute.

Then we let them stand on a coiling rack for a moment while we finished the rest of the boiling.

Then you simply pop the boiled dough rings onto a cooking sheet and into the oven. Cook till golden and delicious looking/smelling, and enjoy.

They looked like bagels, smelled like bagels, felt like bagels, and tasted like some of the yummiest bagels I have ever had!

I am definitely going to be trying this recipe again - and perhaps even branching out to try and make Cinnamon raisin or Onion bagels. The possibilities are endless!

Check out my friends blog for the recipe!

I love the idea of onion bagels! We put random spice cabinet toppings on our last batch-- minced garlic, oregano, basil... (though not mixed)-- turned out pretty tasty!

love your pictures!
