1 Year

Yesterday, Papillon turned one.
In honor of the special occasion, we had a party. A fancy, costume, pool party to be exact. This was Papillon's outfit:

More on the party later. For now, some notes about Papillon at 12 months:

She no longer wants to lay quietly next to Snoopy, so we opted for some sitting up pictures, with a cracker to keep her still.

I don't have her official weight and height yet. Her doctor's appointment isn't until Friday. But, I feel like she has had a growth spurt lately, and I am optimistic that we might actually hit 20 pounds come Friday! Woohoo! Say, "Soooo big!"

At 12 months, Papillon....

....goes to be between 7 and 7:30 and gets up between 6:30 and 8.

...generally takes 2 naps. Though if we are out doing something fun for part of the day, it is not unlikely that she will only take 1 nap. Naps generally never exceed 2 hours.

.....eats a ridiculous amount of food. I swear she and I often eat the same amount for breakfast and lunch. She loves chicken, cheese, crackers, peas, broccoli and all kinds of fruit.

....nurses 4-5 times a day. Yup, I did it. We nursed for a whole year. Considering how we started off, I am pretty darn pleased with that accomplishment.

....officially has 6 teeth (2 on bottom, 4 on top) with maybe one or two more working there way in on the bottom.

....is soooo close to walking. She just hasn't worked up the nerve to let go of stuff yet. But she is super strong and her balance is pretty good. And she cruises around the furniture really easily. So I don't think it will be long before she takes off.

....climbs steps. She is not super enthralled by this skill yet (which is good!), but she can do it if there is something fun that she wants sitting on the steps.

....knows the signs for "more" and for "book". Unfortunately, her versions of those signs look super similar. As in identical. We are working on differentiating.

...absolutely loves books. She gets up from her nap and signs for a book. She finishes lunch and signs "book". I change her diaper and the whole time, she signs "book". And she would let me read to her constantly if I had time.

....does a few "tricks". Including: Clapping, Giving High Fives, saying "Sooo Big", responding with a "phhhhhhhh" if you ask her name, and we are working on giving kisses. Her favorite trick is definitely "Sooo big".

....is a curious little kid. She will sit and turn something over and over in her hands for a looooong time!

...this weekend last year we were here; and now we are here:

...with our beautiful, bright eyed, floppy haired little girl who is hardly even a baby any more.

We love you soooooo much, Papillon!

A year makes such a huge difference! Milestones are such a great time to reflect on God's goodness to us!

I love the outfit! And good work on the 20 pounds. She'll be caught up to Ellie soon! :) And, a huge hug to you for persevering on the nursing front - I know it was so hard but so totally worth it!! And clearly, Papillion still needs it (i.e. she still wants to nurse 4-5 times a day!). So hooray for everyone!
