Midwest 2011: Lake Superior

I never would have guessed it, but the scenery in "almost-Canada"-Michigan is actually quite lovely. One day while Papillon was napping, Mon Amour took a bunch of pictures of the area around our rental cabin. They are quite lovely.

I love birch trees. They are so cool.

Though its a lake, (and technically a Bay, off of the Lake) it looks like an ocean cause the waves are rather large.

The waves do a number on the rocks, creating these cool fractures in them. When you step on the edges, the rock crumbles under your feet and feels almost like you are walking on sand.

Most of the rocks are quite "soft". This one was whole when I picked it up and just slid into two pieces with a gentle squeeze.

You can see the rocks even look a bit like sand:

Here is our cabin. A nice bird house shaped house (aka A-Frame).

We tried to get some pictures of Papillon on the rocks, but she was not having a lot of fun. She stopped fussing when we gave her this rock....which she proceeded to try and eat. We took the rock away and fussing resumed.

She looks happy...but don't be fooled, she thought it much too cold and windy.

She's right, it does tend to be too windy and cold up here. Luckily it's also beautiful!
