One day while in Michigan, we explored "Presque Isle" (aka, the almost-island park thing). It was gorgeous.
Nearby there was this huge structure used to load ore from trains onto boats. The train parks on top and then theses gigantic shoots lower, dumping all the ore on the boat. It's hard to tell form this picture how huge it is, I wish we had gotten some better pictures of it, but to give it a bit of scale - there was a train on top of it that was more than 55 train cars long. It's huge.

When we first got to the park, we walked along this sea-wall (we didn't go all the way out to the end). It was a bit windy, but gave us a cool perspective on the Isle.
It was chillier than the bright sun indicated, so Papillion stayed bundled up in the Mei Tai with Mon Amour.
Delicious Thai food was had for lunch. I don't like Thai, but I must confess, these cream-cheese things were quite tasty!
Here is Papillon having lunch. Like I said, it was quite chilly. And like the delinquent parents that we are, we neglected to bring mittens or even extra socks for the kid. So she borrowed some...they were a bit big on her.
After lunch we took a nice long walk around the Isle and it was beautiful! If it weren't for the pine trees and chilly breeze you would have thought it was the caribbean! The water was so blue!
Along the trail that we followed there was a fence labeled with a warning sign "Caving Ground. Do Not Cross". I was not sure what this meant at first...were people really caving in these cliffs? But no, it means that side of the cliff caves into the lake from time to time. So don't get too close. You could see why this happens though - the waves really beat into the cliffs at the base.
Love birch trees!
Taking a moment for a family photo.
